So this little feature is interesting for a few reasons, first it’s a Nova, precursor to the hated Corsa. Some find it odd that I love the Nova so much but hate the Corsa, well this is why, like the real Mini, they went from a great car to a shit car and all the heritage of the old cool car was lost, no respect to the followers, just finished production, changed, ruined and then relaunched and we the enthusiast are supposed to just suck it up, obviously some Mini owners weren’t to fussed but that’s a rant for another time.

But all is not lost because some people will never let that heritage die and this Nova is a prime example. Kenny has owned his Nova for the past five years, and nowadays that seems like a pretty long time, what with everyone on finance, or part Xing everything after a year or two. To make things even better though this car has Max Power roots, and I am part of the Max Power generation, and even though I never got into the insane body kits I do miss that era of modified cars.

So we shall begin five years ago when Kenny bought his ex Max Power show car in Wales and drove it home to Scotland. He then continued to drive it as a daily for a few months but sadly and typically got all the standard keyboard warrior abuse online in all the car groups, which is shit but predictable. Whats worse however is that some utter c**ts decided that he shouldn’t keep driving it, so they trashed it, which is truly heartbreaking. It sat for 5 months feeling shit about itself, but then someone local started breaking a Nova and Kenny got back involved. First he got some standard bumpers but once he got started he couldn’t stop. And this is where things get a bit more interesting to me, Kenny’s dad had a little multi purpose saw that he used to carefully cut the body kit up with. He shaped the wings back to fit standard lights, bought a standard boot and bonnet, the car almost looked like a Nova again. But he didn’t stop there, it currently has smoothed GTE bumpers, an Izuzu trooper bonnet scoop which had to grow on me a little, an after market “preditor” boot spoiler, and a mk4 Astra splitter. Of course the interior hasn’t been left alone either with a full GTE interior, steering wheel and digi dash. However it can’t just look good it has to go some as well. He recently swapped out the old 1200 block and replaced it with a 1600 from a mk3 Astra, had the head skimmed, heavily ported and polished. New piston rings, oil seals, the lot, along with a piper 285 hi lift cam and a mk2 golf carb jetted to suit. He replaced the brakes, added front and rear strut braces and a full exhaust with a cherry bomb sitting at back. There are so many little things that rock this Nova like the smoothed door handles with button poppers under mirrors, the petrol cap relocated to door shut, the carbon wrapped boot, but I think what made this ride so fly for me was how well it suits the 16″ 8/9j white Borbets which luckily for Kenny a friend was selling in a rush which I imagine made them nicely affordable. Finally this winter Kenny rubbed down the car, got rid of all the matt black that had been covering the lime green, he fitted new side skirts, which of course had to be cut to fit and then painted it Audi dolphin grey, and now his lairy lime green show car has been reshaped and relaunched as a mean as fook hot hatch for the 2000s, fair play Kenny, love it.
